MBBS Student Dies by Suicide at Delhi Medical College Hostel

Probe Initiated into Tragic Incident

In New Delhi, a 23-year-old final-year MBBS student reportedly took her own life in her hostel room at Maulana Azad Medical College on Monday. Hailing from Dwarka, the woman's demise was discovered when police were alerted around 1:30 pm. Authorities entered the room and found her body hanging from the ceiling fan. Forensic teams investigated the scene, but no suicide note was recovered. Police are currently interviewing friends and family to determine the potential motive behind the tragic incident.

An officer stated that the day before the incident, the woman had returned to the hostel from her home in Dwarka and remained secluded in her room for an extended period. Concern arose when there was no response to knocks on her door, leading to suspicions of foul play. Consequently, the college authorities contacted the police for assistance.

The woman, who was assigned to the surgery department at Lok Nayak Hospital, was residing in the hostel at MAMC. A friend mentioned, "She had prepared home-cooked meals for all her friends upon returning from her parents' house. Everything seemed ordinary. Today's events are incomprehensible." Another friend remarked, "She was always cheerful; it's difficult to believe that she could have been enduring something so severe to resort to such an extreme action."

Batchmates described the woman as a bright student who consistently extended a helping hand to others. "She was kind to everyone," expressed one batchmate. "It's hard to accept that someone I've known for so long is suddenly gone. We can only speculate about the challenges she might have been facing."

TOI attempted to contact the MAMC dean and LNJP officials for comment but did not receive any response.

In a similar incident last year, a 25-year-old man pursuing his third year of PG medicine allegedly took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his rented accommodation in Gautam Nagar. Police, after ruling out foul play, confirmed that he had been battling depression for two years.
