Kerala Student Endured 29-Hour Assault

Tragic Suicide Confirmed by Police

J S Sidharthan, the veterinary science student who tragically died by suicide in Kerala’s Wayanad, endured continuous assault for 29 hours before taking his own life, according to a police report submitted to a subdivisional court.

According to the report by Vythiri sub-inspector Prashobh P V, seniors and classmates subjected the 21-year-old student of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Pookode to targeted harassment from 9 am on Feb 16 to 2 pm the following day, which included striking him with a belt.

The court has ordered additional penal charges to be imposed on the suspects involved in the case.

A copy of the report was submitted to the CBI team investigating the case, which quoted findings from the college's anti-ragging squad.

The report also indicates that Sidharthan was under severe mental distress following the ragging ordeal, stating, "He felt that there was no option left for him other than suicide."

The CBI probe team is scheduled to meet his father on Tuesday to record his statement in the investigation.
