Delhi Women Robs Own Home

Jewellery meant for sister's wedding stolen…

A 31-year-old woman in New Delhi, donning a burqa, allegedly entered her mother's home in Uttam Nagar and pilfered jewelry and cash amounting to lakhs, according to the police.

On January 30, a woman, identified as Kamlesh, approached the police about a robbery at her Sevak Park home in Delhi's Uttam Nagar.

Kamlesh lodged a complaint stating that on January 30, between 2 pm and 2:30 pm, her residence was burglarized, resulting in the theft of gold and silver jewelry valued at lakhs, along with Rs 25,000 in cash.

Initiating an investigation, the police found no evidence of forced entry; both the main door and cupboard locks remained undisturbed.

After scrutinizing CCTV footage in the vicinity, the investigative team identified a woman in a burqa entering the residence suspiciously. Subsequently, the police's technical inquiry resulted in the apprehension of 31-year-old Shweta, identified as Kamlesh's elder daughter.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to orchestrating the burglary, citing feelings of jealousy and hatred towards her younger sister, whom she believed her mother favored more, as the motive, stated the police. Additionally, she mentioned being burdened by some debts.

Shweta informed the police that she devised an elaborate plan to settle her debts. She claimed that some of the stolen jewelry was originally hers, which she had entrusted to her mother for safekeeping.

The remaining pieces were crafted by her mother for her sister's wedding, as per her statement.

According to the police, Shweta disclosed the gradual buildup to the day of the robbery, unraveling the details of her plan.

The police reported that Shweta initiated her plan by moving out of her mother's home in January.

During the initial days, Kamlesh assisted her elder daughter in setting up her new residence, taking advantage of the time when her younger daughter was away at work.

On the day of the theft, Shweta reportedly pilfered the keys to her mother's house and left her new residence, claiming to buy vegetables as a pretext.

After obtaining the keys, Shweta entered a public toilet to wear the burqa and then proceeded to her mother's house. Using the keys, she reportedly unlocked both the main door and cupboard, making away with jewelry and cash. Upon learning about the robbery, when Kamlesh informed her, Shweta allegedly feigned concern and distress, with the police suggesting she believed no one would suspect her.

Despite Shweta's claim of selling the stolen jewelry, the police successfully recovered the items.
