1 Dead, 4 Injured in Collapse at Delhi’s Gokulpuri Metro Station

In New Delhi, a man lost his life following a collapse at the Gokulpuri Metro Station on the Pink Line this morning.

 

According to police reports, a section of the boundary wall on the eastern side of the elevated platform fell onto the road below around 11 am.

 

The victim has been identified as Vinod Kumar, 53 years old, residing in Karawal Nagar.

 

Ajit Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad who was riding a two-wheeler, sustained serious injuries after being trapped under the debris.

 

Three others, identified as Monu, Sandeep, and Mohd Tazir, sustained minor injuries, according to the police. They are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

 

Additionally, at least four two-wheelers were buried under the debris.

 

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the suspension of two officials, including a manager and a junior engineer.

 

The victim's family will receive a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh. Delhi Metro has also announced Rs 1 lakh for individuals with minor injuries and Rs. 5 lakh for those with serious injuries.

 

Video clips circulating on social media depicted cops removing the rubble from the collapse site. According to the DMRC, the debris was cleared from the road within an hour.

 

Delhi Metro has announced that trains between Maujpur and Shiv Vihar are operating on a single line, while services on the rest of the Pink Line remain normal.

 

The Delhi Metro stated that as a safety precaution, train services on the stretch from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar are operating on a single line due to the fallen portion towards the Up platform at Gokulpuri station, which has been temporarily closed. However, services on the rest of the Pink Line are unaffected and running normally.

 

The police stated that a case under relevant sections will be registered in this matter, with further investigation ongoing.
