MBBS Student Caught as NEET Exam Proxy

Five Others Detained in Connection

In Bharatpur, Rajasthan, on Sunday, police detained six individuals, among them a medical student who had taken the place of a NEET aspirant during the medical entrance exam.

Initial investigations indicate that Abhishek Gupta, a student at a government college, was involved in a scheme orchestrated by his college mate Ravi Meena. Allegedly, Meena received Rs. 10 lakh from candidate Rahul Gurjar.

"At an examination center, Abhishek was caught impersonating Rahul Gurjar. Upon suspicion, the invigilator reported him to the police. During initial questioning, he revealed that he was accompanied by five others," stated Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aklesh Kumar.

He mentioned that his accomplices were waiting in a car parked outside the examination center, Master Adityendra School, within the jurisdiction of the Mathura Gate police station area. The ASP stated that all the accused are currently under interrogation, and appropriate action will be taken accordingly.

Apart from Gupta, Meena, and Gurjar, those who were detained have been identified as Amit, Dayaram, and Suraj Singh, as per the police.

Meanwhile, at a center in Sawai Madhopur, some candidates taking the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET-UG) exam reported that those who had selected English as their medium of instruction received question papers in Hindi, and vice versa.

The parents of the candidates claimed that they were beaten by the police when they protested the issue.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) responded to the matter in a public notice, acknowledging an incident of "incorrect distribution" of question papers by the center superintendent.

"To ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all candidates, the NTA has acted proactively," Sadhna Parashar, Senior Director at NTA, affirmed. "Today, approximately 120 affected candidates are sitting for a special examination at the center, safeguarding their academic aspirations from any setback caused by this incident."
